You may schedule future Instagram posts—did you know this? Maybe tweak your bio so that it shows up on the Explore tab?
There are a ton of lesser-known Instagram settings, hacks, and search tools that can help you step up your Instagram game. And we’ve gathered them all together here.
There are Instagram tips and features here for everyone, from recruiters trying to highlight your company’s culture to e-commerce marketers to those simply looking to utilize Instagram as effectively as possible.
Make sure you’re using the most recent version of Instagram before you begin. The most current version for iOS and Android is 15.1.1, as this guide was published. Please remember that even though this article may use an iPhone or an Android device to demonstrate each tip below, all of the items on this list are accessible for both operating systems and may be used following the exact step-by-step instructions.
1. Multiple accounts can be added and managed on the same device.
Does your dog have a separate account? Be confident and stick with your puppy profile. In reality, you may add and manage this account alongside your account, whether for a pet or a business.
This is how:
Tap the gear icon located in your profile. On an Android device, you must first tap the three horizontal lines in the upper right corner of your screen to find this symbol.
Click “Add Account” after reaching the page’s bottom.
You can now add your other account using its username and password.
Holding down your profile image in the navigation bar will show all associated accounts and allow you to switch between the two profiles. Additionally, you can change accounts by using the Settings page that was previously described. View a screenshot of this screen in the following Instagram feature.
2. View every post that you have liked.
Ever wished you could access all of the posts you’ve liked in one place? All you have to do is go to your profile, click the “Settings” button at the upper right (on an iPhone/iPad, this is a gear symbol; on an Android, this is a three-dot menu), then click “Account,” then “Posts You’ve Liked.”
Simply visit the post in question and deselect the “heart” icon to un-Like any of the posts you’ve already liked. You won’t have to worry about the person finding out that you un-Liked their post.
3. Delete, deactivate, or hide comments made on your posts.
Twitter may have a more open-ended remark culture than Instagram, but it’s far simpler to manage who comments on your content there. If you oversee a business account, this is extremely crucial.
To keyword filter comments:
You may toggle “Hide Inappropriate Comments” on and even specify particular phrases you’d like the app to police within each comment by going to “Options” and selecting “Comments” in the Instagram mobile app.
Comment deletion:
To erase a remark, tap the speech bubble icon next to it, then lightly slide to the left over this text. To remove this post, click the appearing rubbish can icon. This applies to your remarks as well.
To completely disable comments:
To be clear, you can only block comments for specific posts; you cannot disable comments for your entire profile.
Start by submitting an image you don’t want anyone to remark on. At the bottom of the page, where you may add a caption, tags, and location, tap “Advanced Settings.” This will bring up a screen where you can quickly activate the “Turn Off Commenting” option.
4. Delete the search history for Instagram.
This blog post isn’t solely about how to persuade folks that you’re not an Instagram creeper, we promise. But many of us are urged to delete all our online search histories, not just on this specific social media platform. Fortunately, you can.
Go to your profile and click the “Settings” button (a gear symbol on iPhone/iPad and three dots on Android) to delete your Instagram search history. After descending, select “Security”:
Then click the blue “Clear Search History” link after selecting “Clear Search History” at the bottom of the screen.
5. Add a second Instagram account in your bio.
Maybe your business has multiple Instagram accounts for various facets of your brand. For instance, SocialProofy offers accounts for SocialProofy Partners, SocialProofy Life, SocialProofy Academy, and Verified SocialProofy.
The @SocialProofy account is then linked to SocialProofy’s other account bios to drive traffic back to its primary corporate page, as shown in @SocialProofy’s account:
Thankfully, you have the choice to add a second Instagram account to your profile. Simply enter the @ symbol in your bio and choose the account you want to tag. Click “Done” once more.
6. Add unique typefaces to your biography.
This Instagram bio trick will help your profile stand out. Emojis can also be added to the bio that appears beneath your profile picture, but your keyboard immediately restricts your options.
You can copy over some additional unique typefaces that aren’t frequently seen in the Instagram community using a few straightforward third-party websites. How? Read on.
How to Use a Special Font on a Mobile Bio:
Change the typeface in your Instagram bio using a mobile device and a website like LingoJam. When you open the website on your phone and enter your selected bio text in the left text box, the same bio text will appear on the right in various typefaces.
Open your Instagram app, select your profile, select “Edit Profile,” press the “Bio” section, and paste your preferred font into the empty box. Then, open your Instagram app, travel to your profile, select “Edit Profile,” tap the “Bio” section, and click “Paste.”
How can you add a unique font to your bio on a desktop?
If you’re editing your Instagram profile on a laptop or desktop, you may quickly download fonts from Font Space’s catalog and paste them into your bio. To do this, locate a font you like and click “Download” next to the sample image of the typeface, as demonstrated below.
When you download this font, a folder on your desktop will open from which you can select a “.ttf” file containing several iterations of this typeface. The document will resemble the image below in some ways.
As soon as you’ve copied this typeface to your computer’s clipboard, launch your browser and go to Instagram.com. Paste the downloaded font into the “Biography” form after choosing “Edit Profile.” The example text that comes with your font can then be modified to create your new bio in the way you see suitable.
7. Make your bio stand out with unique characters.
You can add unusual characters that differentiate you or your brand but aren’t found on the standard keyboard on your smartphone to your bio, in addition to customizing it with a unique font. These include or even TM if your Instagram username contains a product name protected by a trademark.
From mobile, add special characters.
Install a free mobile app like Character Pad using your mobile device. This program has nearly all the characters and symbols you might require but cannot locate in the 26-letter English alphabet.
Find the character you want to add to your Instagram bio by opening the app. To paste your chosen symbol into a text field in Character Pad, just double-tap the image of the symbol, as seen below. Then, copy this character to the clipboard on your phone. (I double-tapped the half moon icon for our needs.)
Open Instagram, go to your bio, and tap “Edit Profile” after copying your symbol to the clipboard.
Edit profile
Hold your finger down on the section of your bio where you want to place your unique character until the “Paste” option appears, as seen below. You just need to tap “Paste” and then “Done” to finish.
From a PC, add special characters.
On a desktop or laptop computer, you can also add unique characters and symbols using Instagram’s online client. The simplest method is to use the “Symbol” insertion icon found in Microsoft Word, as displayed below.
Choose the symbol or character you want, then copy it to the clipboard on your computer. After that, go to Instagram.com and adhere to the aforementioned instructions to paste your character into a specific area of your bio.
It may be tempting to merely conduct a Google search for the desired special character, and occasionally this may be just as effective. But bear in mind that not all special characters you copy from the internet and paste into Instagram will be “clean”; some of them may end up damaged or fail to appear as intended.
If you frequently use Instagram, it’s likely that you have a few go-to favorites and other filters that you never use. You can reorder the filters in your editing window to make editing photos more convenient. Create a new post and start modifying it to rearrange the filters. When you get to the filters page, hold down the button next to a filter you want to relocate and then drag it to the spot you want. Maybe you adore Instagram’s editing tools and filters, but you’re not quite ready to upload the picture to your account – not now, not ever. Simply publish a photo while your phone is in airplane mode to use Instagram as a photo editor without sharing anything. Make sure “Save Original Photo” is enabled in your Instagram settings first. After that, proceed as normal to submit a photo to Instagram by uploading it, editing it, and pressing “Share.” An error message will show stating that the upload was unsuccessful, but you can still see the updated photo in your phone’s photo gallery. The keyboard on Instagram doesn’t let you press “Enter” or “Return” when you’re writing a caption, and the same is true for your bio. How, then, do all those folks insert line breaks? It turns out that all you have to do to get the “Return” key to appear on the bottom right of the keyboard is press the “123” key in the bottom left corner of the keyboard. This advice may seem obvious, yet many people overlook it. I was one of them until a coworker pointed it out to me. There are various creative ways to get around this issue, such as composing the caption copy in another app before copying and pasting it into Instagram. Fortunately, it’s a lot easier than that. Your first Instagram followers may be your close friends, relatives, and coworkers, but expanding your audience requires more than just those who already know you. Getting your profile to show up on Instagram’s Explore tab is a crucial step towards achieving this. The explore tab is a surfing page that organizes the whole Instagram community by topic and keyword. It may be accessed by clicking the magnifying glass symbol, as seen above. Fitness, style, science, and other topics are among them. In addition to using these terms as hashtags in your photos, you can also use them in your Instagram name and bio to draw attention to your profile. If Jane Doe works as a marketing consultant, she might want to change her Instagram identity from “Jane Doe” to “Jane Doe Marketing” so that she can list all of her specialties in her bio, such as “SEO,” “blogging,” “email marketing,” etc. The fact that clickable URLs may only be used in the lone “website” box in your Instagram bio is one of the greatest complaints people have about marketing on the platform. If you Use your photo descriptions to entice visitors to visit your Instagram profile, which is where you are allowed one clickable URL in a cunning attempt to draw them there. Then, regularly change the URL to connect to your most recent blog post, YouTube video, item, or offer. See the illustration from the food magazine Bon Appétit below. The text call-to-action in the caption of this image directs you to the user’s profile, where you can click the post’s link. The link will then appear on Bon Appétit’s profile. Regularly update this link to point to your most recent articles or deals. Additionally, if your Instagram account is verified, you can add links to your Stories. Click here to learn more about this feature. As (or after) you publish new content to Instagram, you may already be aware that you may tag individuals in your pictures. You may now tag things and send your audience to a product page so they can purchase what they saw. How to Add a Business Instagram Account A business account on Instagram is required to produce shoppable posts. You can obtain one by going to your Instagram profile, selecting “Edit Profile,” and then tapping “Try Instagram Business Tools,” as displayed below. How to Product Tag a Post To use product tags on a post that features a product, you must activate them once your Instagram Business account has been launched. To link a “product catalog” to your business profile, go to your preferences by clicking the gear icon on your profile page, choose “Products,” tap “Continue,” and then adhere to the on-screen instructions. You can now upload new posts to your Instagram Business account and tag your pictures with products you discover in your product catalog since product tags have been enabled. An example of a shoppable post is shown below: Although it takes a long time to answer customer inquiries and comments, there is a hack to speed up the procedure and increase efficiency. (Note: Only Instagram Business accounts can use this.) Create a one- to two-word phrase that will serve as a shortcut to a longer typical response that you might frequently send. To do this, select “Business” from your Settings, then “Quick Replies”; alternatively, select “New Quick Reply” by clicking the three-dot chat bubble icon at the bottom of the screen. Include a shortcut that you can use to enter a response. For example, you could use the shorthand “return policy” to shorten a longer message that reads, “Hey there. We’re sorry you don’t love your purchase. Fortunately, we permit 30-day returns, no questions asked. Please send us your order confirmation number to get the process started.” Once you’ve added a shortcut, you can press the three-dot chat Quick Replies bubble icon at the bottom of your screen to select from an answer you’ve generated, or you may write the shortcut “return policy” into the comment box when you want it to automatically produce. (See here for additional information on Quick Replies.) Except for Facebook, its parent firm, Instagram doesn’t naturally integrate with many social networks, making it difficult to publish Instagram posts to other social accounts. However, platforms that love images stick together when it comes to Pinterest. Using this sneaky method, you can pin your most recent Instagram Story to Pinterest: Tap a post to view it in its entirety on the Instagram mobile app, then tap the three dots in the upper-right corner of the image. To copy the link to the picture to your clipboard, choose “Copy Share URL.” Go to your profile page by opening the Pinterest mobile app or downloading it; you’ll need it for this step. If you have the most recent version of Pinterest downloaded, it can ask you whether you want to use the image from your clipboard as soon as you launch the app. If not, click the “+” symbol in the upper right corner of the page to add a new pin. You will then be presented with a menu of options where you can enter your “Copied Link” to a new Pin or board on your profile. Instagram offers the opportunity to save or save particular posts in collections that you make, in addition to allowing you to browse all of the posts that you have liked. To begin, navigate to your profile, hit the “Settings” button in the top-right corner of the screen, and then choose “Saved”: Once you’ve given your new collection a name, press the “+” button. Use someone’s Instagram settings to find saved posts. Select photographs from your “Saved” section before clicking “Next.” Tap the bookmark symbol below the post you want to add to save images for later collections, as illustrated below: You’ll see the photographs you’ve saved; to add them to your collection, choose the collection you wish to add to, and then tap “Add to Collection.” Similar to Snapchat, updates to your Story only remain visible to your followers for a 24-hour period. However, there are occasions when a narrative merits more time to be conveyed. This is where Instagram’s Tales Highlights feature, which enables you to keep stories collectively on your profile page, comes in. This explains what that “New” button with the “+” icon underneath your profile photograph is for those who have ever been curious. You can choose any number of previous stories in your album by tapping this New option to create a Stories Highlight: Give it a name and a cover photo, after which it will appear on your profile page as its own Instagram Story. By tapping this tale while holding on to the button, you may always delete the Stories Highlights. Your Instagram feed’s Highlights serve as your brand’s portfolio; you may use them to show off new goods or services, highlight your company’s principles, or organize the numerous subjects you commonly post about. For instance, The North Face uses its Highlights section, which includes sections titled “VOTE,” “Global Climbing Day 2020,” and “Summer Basecamp,” to showcase several programs that are significant to the brand: You should make sure your initial highlights are the ones you’re most proud of since a user can only see the first four when they first access your feed. Simply use this approach to accomplish this: 1. When the slide-up opens, hold down the Highlight you want to bring to the top of this list and click “Edit Highlight.” 2. Next, locate a picture or video that you want to include in the Highlight. (Don’t worry, you can delete this in 30 seconds, so there’s no need to select one that will remain highlighted.) 3. Your Highlight will now be at the top of the list. Follow the directions above and just uncheck the box next to the image you just added to remove it. The opening of the Highlight reel will still have your Highlight. You should pick a captivating, interesting image for each Highlight in order to correctly represent the kind of material consumers might anticipate seeing if they tap the Highlight. It is still possible to make a design, logo, or image the Highlight Icon, even if it isn’t present in your Instagram feed. Click “Edit Highlight” to accomplish this (similar to the previous step): Click “Done” after selecting an image from your camera roll to create a new highlight. Now, the image on your Highlight cover is one you’ve never shared on Instagram: Because Instagram is a mobile app, you probably have a routine where you regularly take images and publish them to your Instagram Story. However, you may also schedule them to go up from your computer at a specific time and day in the future. You might choose to omit this step depending on the social media scheduling application you employ. However, once you’ve switched to the appropriate account, your scheduling tool will open, you’ll be able to access your connected accounts, and Instagram will be an option for integration. Instagram has a feature called Instagram Stories that lets you upload fleeting images that only exist for 24 hours and appear independently from your profile. It’s a fantastic feature for assisting individuals who share your interests in finding your profile on Instagram’s home page. But since its inception, Stories has evolved fairly creatively, and to stand out to your audience, you need more than a pretty filter. Enter “Type Mode,” a feature akin to Snapchat that allows you to caption Stories that require more information to be meaningful to someone. This is how to apply it: 1. Swipe right from your Instagram feed to access Instagram Stories. This will start the camera on your smartphone. Then, as demonstrated below, take a picture or a video and click the “Aa” icon in the upper-right corner of your screen: There are five typefaces available in Type Mode when you click the “Aa” icon: Modern, Neon, Typewriter, Strong, and Classic. Here is an example of a story in the modern font: Despite the fact that Instagram Stories are a fantastic way to get your content seen on the homepages of your followers, you might not always have something to share. When that happens, you can use Instagram Stories to share a motivating post from another user. This is how: In order to share a post in your Instagram Stories, locate it and touch the paper aircraft icon as displayed below. You can email this post to particular followers or add it to your Story by clicking this symbol, which will open a screen. Select the second choice as displayed below. By selecting this option, the post will be converted into an Instagram Story that you can edit and customize just like any other Instagram Story. Want to ensure that you never again miss an Instagram post from your favorite influencers? You can decide to get notified each time a certain user uploads a new photo. All you need to do is enable notifications for every user separately. Visit a user’s profile, click the three dots in the top-right corner of the post, choose “Notifications” from the drop-down menu, and then select “Turn on notifications for posts or articles” from the menu that displays to enable these alerts. Get alerts when your favorite users publish content on Instagram. Follow Jen Reed at @thesisterstudioig to receive updates when influential users publish content on Instagram. Do you want to disable post notifications? Just take the same actions. It’s crucial to remember that you must enable Instagram app notifications in your phone’s settings. Here’s how. Go to “Settings,” then “Notifications,” select “Instagram,” and then toggle “Allow Notifications” to enable notifications on your iPhone or iPad. To enable notifications on Android, navigate to “Settings,” pick “Apps,” then “Instagram,” and enable notifications. Unless you choose to manually add tagged photos, Instagram automatically adds any images or videos that feature you to your profile under “Photos of You” (see the next tip). Go to your personal profile and click the person symbol beneath your bio to see the posts in which you have been mentioned. Next, click “Edit” in the top right corner of any individual post (including those in the collection of tagged photos). Click “Manually Approve Tags” after that. Select the posts you want to delete from your profile, and when you’re through, tap “Conceal Photos” at the bottom of your screen to hide the posts you’ve been tagged in from other users. Hit “Hide From Profile” when requested. The posts themselves won’t be deleted from Instagram, but your profile will be deleted, and no one else will be able to see them. As we discussed in the previous step, your profile is typically updated instantly when someone tags a picture or video of you on Instagram. However, you can modify your Instagram settings to enable manually choosing which of the photographs in which you were tagged appear on your profile. The same procedures as above can be used to access images in which you have been tagged, then click “Edit” in the top right corner of the screen to manually add tags. Click “Tagging Options” and choose “Add Manually.” When someone mentions you in a picture, you’ll still get a notification. Once that happens, you can manually add tagged photos to your profile by tapping the image in which you appear, followed by your username, and choosing “Show on My Profile” or “Hide from My Profile,” depending on your preference. Instagram makes an effort to show you relevant and engaging advertisements. You might see advertisements depending on the third-party websites and apps you visit, the Instagram users you follow, and the things you like. However, you can let Instagram know if you see sponsored posts that you don’t think are pertinent so that it can gradually learn what you do and do not like to see. On Instagram, touch the three dots next to a post marked “Sponsored” and select “Hide This” to hide advertisements. The next step will ask you to explain why you don’t want to see the advertisement anymore. From your device’s settings, you can choose not to see advertisements for websites and applications other than Instagram and Facebook. You should be aware that you will still see ads based on your Instagram and Facebook activity even if you decide not to see these kinds of ads. Go to “Google Settings,” then “Advertisements,” and then select the option to “Turn off interest-based ads” to disable interest-based advertising on Android. There are more methods of sharing material on Instagram besides posting photographs for your entire following or for the general public. Additionally, you can send them to one or more users, much like a Facebook message or group SMS message. You have the option of sending friends a brand-new photo or one that you or another else has already shared. Upload a photo and start modifying it like you would when creating a new post if you want to transmit a fresh photo privately. When prompted, choose “Direct Message” when you go to the “Share” page, where it automatically reads “New Post.” From there, you may pick and choose who you’d like to send the photo. The mailbox icon is located in the top right corner of your homepage and may be used at any moment to access your direct messages. Open the post you wish to share, which can be your own or someone else’s as long as the latter has a public account, in order to transmit an existing photo privately. Select the recipient when the “Send to” box appears by clicking the paper airplane-like icon located beneath the post. You can browse the lovely companies, people, and dogs that are waiting for you without an account to decide whether it’s worthwhile to sign up for Instagram, as much as Instagram would like to see you eventually create an account for yourself or your business. Without logging in, there are two ways to search for users on Instagram: Ending the Instagram URL with a user name Utilizing an existing Instagram username and appending it to the end of “www.instagram.com/” is the first method for finding users who do not have accounts. For instance, if you wanted to start with our Instagram handle, “SocialProofy,” you could type the following into the URL bar of your browser: www.instagram.com/SocialProofy. By doing so, you’ll be taken to our Instagram page and the mysterious search box at the top of the page: Searching for Them on the Instagram Website A slightly “hackier” method of finding users without your own Instagram account is to simply do a Google site search for their name. This entails instructing Google to only look for search phrases on a particular website (in this case, Instagram). Open a Google search and enter “site:instagram.com [name of user]” to find a user’s site. One of Instagram’s largest recent additions is IGTV. This abbreviation, “Instagram TV,” as you might have guessed, refers to a special Explore tab for user-generated videos. The primary advantages of IGTV? You can publish videos that are longer than 60 seconds, and you can even make your own channel and upload a video series that you can then share on YouTube and other video-sharing websites. Go to your Explore page and click “IGTV” at the top, as displayed above, to access IGTV. There will be a page with subjects and videos from some of the top IGTV video producers available right now. The subjects you see on the IGTV homepage will start to change as you watch more videos, catering more material to your interests. Naturally, your target audience follows suit. By tapping the “+” symbol in the top right corner of your screen, as illustrated below: Create a channel on IGTV. You can then upload videos from your smartphone’s camera roll to your channel after creating an IGTV channel. It’s not difficult to figure out how to like something on Instagram; in fact, it’s so simple that many people do it unintentionally. All you have to do is quickly double-tap the image once you’ve viewed it in its entirety. The problem is that mistakes can be made fast. So here’s a simple Instagram hack for you: navigate through Instagram feeds when your phone is in airplane mode to view people’s photographs without experiencing “double-tap phobia.” Even if you accidentally double-tap a picture while offline, you won’t be able to Like it. However, if you begin on airplane mode, the images won’t load at all. You must first access the feed to load the posts, activate airplane mode, and then begin scrolling. On an iPhone or iPad, swipe up from the bottom of the screen and select the airplane icon to activate airplane mode. Alternately, open “Settings,” select “Wi-Fi,” and activate “Airplane Mode.” Swipe down from the top of the screen on an Android handset to activate airplane mode. Once you see “Settings,” tap it by swiping from right to left. To activate “Airplane Mode,” touch it. You can have fun on Instagram by looking at pictures and videos that were either taken in or close to a particular location. When I want to research a new restaurant or plan a trip, I prefer to go through the photos that were taken there. Here’s how to accomplish both of these. In order to view posts from a particular location: You can either conduct a search for a particular location or click on a geotag on an existing image. Tap the magnifying glass icon at the bottom of your home screen to access the general search page to look for a specific location. Four tabs will show up when you click the search bar at the top. Select “Places” and enter the name of a location. When you click “Search,” it will display all of the most popular and recent posts that have that location geotagged. Go to the photo that has been geotagged with the desired location and click the geotag to view posts with that location on Instagram. You’ll see all of the most popular and recent posts that have that location geotagged. Discover Posts Near Your Location: Choose one of the available geotags from the list that appears. Consider that I decided to look through postings that had the Museum of Science geotag. I can view the most popular and most recent posts that were geotagged at the Museum of Science, Boston, by selecting that option from the menu. How to Verify Your Account on Instagram You must be a public figure, celebrity, or brand and satisfy certain criteria in order to seek a verified badge. If you’ve decided that you meet Instagram’s requirements for verification, do these actions to apply for a badge: Visit your profile (the person icon in the bottom left corner). In the top right corner, tap the three lines. To request verification, go to Settings > Account. Complete the form by entering your username, full name, nickname, category, and photo ID as granted by the government. Click “Send” after completing all form fields. It’s crucial to remember that even if you seek a validated badge, you cannot get one. Find out more about what occurs once you submit a confirmed badge request. Hacks & Features for Instagram9.
